The Rev. James Lawson Abercrombie, 76, of Adairsville, passed away peacefully at home Monday, Sept. 22, 2025.
He was born in Ellijay Sept. 28, 1948, to the late Richard Martin Abercrombie and the late Lorena May Smith Abercrombie. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers, Clyde Abercrombie, Roy Abercrombie, Otis Abercrombie, Herman Abercrombie, Leonard Abercrombie and Hoyt Abercrombie; and sister, Rosalee Abercrombie Burgess.
Rev. Abercrombie was a true man of God, whose ministry of the gospel spanned 27 years. He shared joyfully in the moments of others through weddings, baptisms and dedications, and most of all - bringing people to know the Lord. Sharing his walk of faith was what he felt led to do and he did it well. He was known to like things to be done "his way and orderly," because he was very meticulous and made sure everything was "done just right." This was evident in his appearance, his stance, his character and even his hobbies.
His hobbies included gardening and woodworking - he was a skilled carpenter. If he could choose a favorite place it would be outside taking care of his garden and yard just as thoughtfully as he did his people. His yard was always pristine, his garden abundant, his fruit trees flourishing and his flowers blooming.
He was truly a man of many talents; he taught himself to play the guitar at the age of 12 and went on to use that and his voice to sing and minister to many throughout his lifetime. He was steadfast in his faith and a devoted servant. He was a proud servant and member of the Church of Living God in Rome. He was married to his beautiful wife for 31 years, who also joined him in his love of singing. It is well known the love he had for his family, and the times they shared together making memories were moments he cherished. He will be sadly missed every day, but those who knew and loved him are rejoicing for him now.
He is survived by wife, Patricia "Teresa" Ann Abercrombie; sons, Shane Abercrombie, Dennis (Sharon) Abercrombie, Jason (Durinda) Abercrombie; daughters, Genitha Johnson, Brandy (Travis) Patterson, Jenna (Patrick) Patterson; grandchildren, Chris (Taylor), Lexie, Jacob, Karigan (Echo), Audie, Derrick (Katrina), Nicholas, Joshua (Mervyn), Joseph (Maria), Sarah (Bailey), Parker, Bayley, Kinley and Ansley; great-grandchildren, Anslie, Emma Jo, Renley, Kaylee and Oakley; sisters, Elsie Kowitz and Mattilene Hood; and nieces, nephews and extended family.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 27, 2025, at 1 p.m. from the chapel of Reynolds Funeral Home with the Rev. Buddy Floyd, the Rev. Steve Kelley and the Rev. Bobby Champion officiating.
Interment followed in Pleasant Gap Baptist Church.
