James William Gibson

James William Gibson, 78, of Ellijay, passed away Saturday, March 21, 2026.

He worked for many years as a catcher and hauler for Gold Kist, where he was known for his strong work ethic and commitment to providing for those he loved. He took great pride in his work and carried that same sense of responsibility into every area of his life.

A devoted member of Flat Creek Baptist Church, he had a deep and abiding faith. He loved the Lord and found strength and guidance in his relationship with him. His faith was evident in the way he lived, always striving to do what was right and to serve others.

Above all, he cherished his family. He loved his wife dearly and was deeply devoted to his loved ones. His kindness, strength and unwavering support will be remembered by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Emma and Alvin Gibson; daughter, Sabrina Gibson; sister, Marcie Grizzle; brothers, J.V. Gibson and Charlie Gibson.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Carolyn Loudermilk Gibson; son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Shawntain Thomas, of Ellijay; daughter and son-in-law, Judy and David Hayes, of Ellijay; brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Judy Gibson, of Ellijay; sisters, Faye Lerch and Oneta Harrison, both of Ellijay, Emily Daniels, of Dalton, Christine and Gary Walker, of Chatsworth and Kathleen and Mike Weiss, of Calhoun; special niece, Connie Henson, of Ellijay; along with several grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family.

Funeral services to honor his life will be Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at 4 p.m. from the Flat Creek Baptist Church in Ellijay with the Rev. Danny Townsend officiating. Graveside interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The following gentlemen will be serving as pallbearers: Tim Henson, Terry Green, Tyler Hardeway, Gary Walker, Thomas Thornton Chase Nunn and Kirk Pierce.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday, March 24 from 10 a.m. until p.m. and Wednesday, March 25, from 10 a.m. until 3:15 p.m.

The family respectfully asks that no food and flowers be brought to the funeral home. In lieu of these, donations may be made to the funeral home to help with the final expenses.

He will be greatly missed but fondly remembered for his faith, his hard work and the love he shared so freely.
