Col. Abraham Lincoln "Abe" Richards

RICHARDS, Col. Abraham "Abe" Lincoln, 91, of Chester, passed away peacefully at home on February 9, 2022. He was born in Etowah County, Alabama on January 21, 1931 to the late Burdo and Ida Richards and was a member of Ivey Memorial United Methodist Church, Colonial Heights for over 45 years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Clara Westfall Richards on July 3, 2021; and his brothers, James H. Richards, Edgar A. Richards, Elmer L. Richards and Joel Richards. Col. Richards served his county in the United States Army for 33 years, serving in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He received numerous medals and honors throughout his career including the Bronze Star, Air Medal (four) and Combat Infantry Badge. He is survived by his daughter, Deborah Morey (Joel); sons, Mark Richards and Scott Richards (Margie); grandchildren, Nathaniel Morey (Ashley), Reagan Morey and Phillip LaRue; brothers, Isaac Richards, Allen Richards and Charles Richards; sisters, Ima Dell Ielacqua and Bonnie Riddle; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 26, 2022 at Ivey Memorial United Methodist Church, 17120 Emancipation Hwy., South Chesterfield, Va. 23834 with Rev. Anita Mays-Lucord officiating. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, February 25, 2022 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, Va. 23834. Burial at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in the name of Abraham Lincoln Richards to the American Heart Association (Heart.org/donate) or to the American Cancer Society (cancer.org/donate).
