Adam Harter Obituary

In loving memory of Adam Anthony Harter, who passed away July 14, 2003. Beloved son of Rosemarie, brother of Andrea Harris, Kim Freiberger, father to Blaze Anthony Cliborne, uncle to Caitlin and Ryan Harris, boyfriend of Lindsey Hile, best friends too numerous to mention but they all know who they are and to the countless lives he touched. Adam was born June 25, 1977 in Columbus, Ohio and grew up in Chillicothe, Ohio until moving to Richmond in 1987. Adam’s short but fulfilling life came to a tragic end unexpectedly before he could accomplish his many goals, one of which was to graduate from Ohio State University where he was leaving for this fall with generous grants and funding. He was an active member of the Ohio State University alumni chapter of Greater Richmond. Adam attended Byrd Middle School and was an honor roll student, Valentine King and not the greatest trombone player. Graduating from Hermitage High School in 1995, he participated in ROTC, football, German Club and wrestling. In 1994, he created the famous Bowl Rest feature found today on Hamilton Beach/Proctor-Silex handmixers. Adam enlisted in the United States Army shortly after graduation. He graduated from J. Sargeant Reynolds May 10, 2003 with an Associate Degree in Science with a major in Business Administration cum laude and was an honored member of Phi Beta Lambda Chapter of Future Business Leaders of America. He was in the process of completing his certification as a personal trainer. Although Adam did not have a chance to say goodbye, he would want you to know how much he enjoyed his time with you in whatever that capacity was. He loved life and he will want you to remember him that way. To Blaze, his son, who will not have the joy of knowing his father and the wonderful life he wanted him to have and share, and to Adam’s special young friends in the pools and the YMCA, "I love you and will miss you. If you ever need anything, call my mom. Be good, Adam/Dad". In lieu of flowers, we ask that any charitable contributions in Adam’s memory be donated to the Virginia Home for Boys, 8716 W. Broad St., Richmond, Va. 23294. An open memorial service will be held Friday, July 18, 2003 at 7 p.m. at Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 W. Broad St., Glen Allen, Va.

Happy birthday Adam. I told Kimmie the chapstick story. Love you

July 14, 2015

Well, it is another year gone bye, but, not for me...as I miss you everyday, not just today. I think about the person that you would be today...and I also think about the person that I would have become as well. But, without you, it is all just a dream. Come see me soon. You are always welcome. Let's dance like we used to do. Always, Kimmie

Adam,
Today is always the most painful day of the year for me. It is hard to believe that 11 years has passed...as it all still feels like it happened yesterday. Missing you today (as I do every day) and smiling as I think about our memories that we had together. Thanks for all the laughs (and well, tears too)...as only a little brother would do! Always in my heart. Love Kimmie

Hi Adam this is Rick Moore, a former co-worker at Proctor Silex with your mother. I enjoyed the time we spent together. Teaching you karate was something i will never forget. You were a quick learner and you made the sessions we had memorable. My thoughts and prayers will always be with you. I love you and always will.

Not sure why I thought of you today, its been a long time; but just wanted to let you know you will never be forgotten. I had the pleasure of getting to know you most of my senior year at Hermitage. You introduced me to sushi (lol) and you'd be proud to hear its actually one of my favorite foods now. You made my spring break an unforgettable memory! You sat patiently in the stands until I was done cheerleading just so we could go out and have some fun! You made sure I wasn't forgotten on Valentines Day. You inpacted my life in ways you will never know and you will always hold a place close to my heart. I miss you Adam :)

Love you always,

Kim and Andrea,
My heart goes out to you both for the loss of your brother. I remember Adam when he was an adorable little boy who was as cute as he could be back when he would come to our volleyball and basketball games. Even when we went to church camp at Rio Grande. I think he was just a baby then. I don't know what happened but you are all in my thoughts and prayers. God Bless you all...

I recently found out about what happened almost 3 1/2 years ago. I was friends with Adam at Hermitage High school and was a year or two ahead of him. He lived in my neighborhood and was really good friends with my sister who was in his grade. I remember Adam as a fun loving guy and we shared many laughs. You will be missed my friend.

To Adam's family: I am so very sorry to hear about your loss. Honestly, after reading this, I'm in shock. I went to high school with Adam and we were in ROTC together. He was a great guy and loved to joke around. I can remember the trip we took to Quantico, was awesome. My family has also suffered some great losses and I want you to know that they are all still with us...and one day we will be with them again. This time for an eternity. God bless and take care.

Hey Adam, It's Andi.

Wanted to let you know that things are going good. We just had Ryan's 4th B-day and Blaze came and had a great time. He is swimming very good now and it's all because he knew you were a lifeguard.

He is doing good in school and we talk about you all the time with him.

I hope you liked the roses we left for you on your birthday.

We miss you dearly and hope to hear from you again soon.

Love you always, Andi, Chris, Caitlin and Ryan

Hi Adam, it's Andi again.

Today marks a year gone by and there hasn't been a day that I have not thought about you since you left us. Good news, Dusty and Blaze moved into our neightborhood and Caitlin & Ryan will be going to school with him this year! I am sure you had something to do with that and I wanted to thank you!!!

Adam, I miss you and I wrote a poem that I read today at your service in Hollywood Cemetary. I hope you liked the poem.

I wanted to include it in your book. (below)

Adam

Reflections of a Life Gone Too Soon

Moments of Laughter……….

Adam’s fashion show in mom’s clothes

Moments of Pain………

The night Jaime ran over Adam’s foot with the car

Moments of Joy………

The day his son, Blaze, was born

Questions like, “How did you do that?”………..

The night Adam backed over a parked car in mom’s driveway

Statements like, “Now you’re in trouble”…........

Right after Adam backed over the car in mom’s driveway

Memories of Hide and Go seek……….

We always climbed out of your bedroom window, even though we said it was off limits

Moments of Memory Loss……….

The night Adam reported his car stolen, only to find it the next day where he parked it

Statements like “What? He wanted us too”……..

Half a day at Disney World before he realized his fingernails had been painted PINK

Sisters Dabbling in Science Experiments……….

Yes, we fed you rocks when you were little to see if they came out rocks………….

Moments of poetry……….

Adam’s talent and unique way of making sense of life

Adam, this is my poem to you………

To make sense of life

My dear Adam,my baby boy-a year ago today was the last time we laughed, hugged and the normal bickering, like how to cook corn on the cob. You bribed me to cook the corn with your "scratchy stubble-beard rub and a smooch on my neck" technique while you made your steak.I am so grateful that we always gave hugs and kisses because you never know when they will be the last.I miss you honey.I love you, Momma xoxoxox

To Adam's family and freinds:

As you all know, tomorrow is July 14, 2004 - it will be exactly a year since my brother passed. In honor and memory of Adam - we will be meeting tomorrow at 3:00pm at the Hollywood Cemetery (Idlewood Section) to finally lay Adam to rest...we never had a chance to do this last year as it was so unexpected. This is an invitation for you to join us (if possible) - and if not, then to at least let you know where you can go to visit Adam's final resting place when you find the time. - Rain or shine...I hope to see you there.

Hi Adam,

it's me again.

I wanted you to know that we miss you and how silly you are. I tell people all of the funny things you have done over the years.

I told everyone about you driving the riding mower up the jungle gym after you ran it into the tree! HAHAHAHA

And even though you are not here, you still make me laugh!

I am still waiting for you to move somethings in my house, ya know :)

I know you have been with us over the past few months. I have felt you there.

Thank you for bringing Blaze into our lives. He had a wonderful day playing with Caitlin and Ryan at our house. He kept looking at me with those powerful eyes as he played and laughed, but there were those moments when I knew it wasn't him looking at me any longer..........it was you.

Adam, we will watch over Blaze for you and you are always welcome to come hang out with us and watch him play.

Well, I will talk to you soon,

I love you and miss you.

Love, Andi

I know you are happy and smiling down on us all from heaven. You are missed by many as you could light up any room you entered and any life you touched.

Kim and Rosie....I send you both my best...

Some of the best times in my life were spent with you all.

Adam,

There were times when we both got a little tired of each other and times when maybe we couldn't deal with each other . . . I miss that so much. I miss having someone to call when I want to talk. You are who I should be comforted by right now and it hurts to know you can't. I love you so much. I know you are happy where you are and I want you to know I think about you all the time, more than I ever could imagine I would think about one person. Know that I love you and I hope you will wait for me wherever you are. Because you know the first question I will ask is "Did you kiss anyone."

Don't make your "ugly face" for anyone most people won't think it is as cute as I did!

Love,

Pea.

Still hard to believe that you are gone bro - what happened? I am still waiting for you to come home and cook me some of your new recipes and burn the kitchen down...you had so many hidden talents - I knew them all - too bad that you were taken so suddenly and will not have a chance to share all your talents with the rest of the world. I know that you were and are still surrounded by those you loved and those who loved you. You always had a special gift of selecting friends that truly thought that world of you - as did I. I miss so much that words can not express my pain and sorrow... it has been like a telephone call that has been disconnected and I really never had a chance to say good-bye. I think of you everyday, everynight and have tried to keep myself together for mom's sake - but, this has been hard bro. I will continue to stay strong for you - and vow to never miss any of the Ohio State games in your honor. I will wear your jersey #32 with pride and save you a seat right beside me! May GOd rest your soul and keep you at peace...I know that oyu are watching over me. I always wanted a guardian angel - I am so glad now that my guardian angel is you!

Visit me when you can - I am here waiting for you.

Your sister,

Kim

I knew the first night Adam and I met that we would be friends forever. Everyone we were with that evening did not want to do what we wanted to do and we sat on his back deck many hours after the sun came up talking about things that life long friends talk about. I did feel like he was a life long friend. It was funny to think I had met him only a few hours before. "Adam, you are truely one of a kind and I will always miss you."

Adam and I were good friends in high school. He was always the guy who would walk in the room and make everybody smile, without even saying a word. He was a great person, and I am so sad that he is no longer with us. My prayers are with his family. I'm sure he's watching out for us in Heaven.

July 25, 2003

HI Adam, I wanted to tell you that we think about you everyday!

Caitlin talks about your silly antics with her and Chris and I recently laughed again about your fashion show you put on a couple years ago with mom's clothes. I think daily of all of the funny things we did growing up...feeding you rocks, painting your finger nails when you were asleep, playing hid and go seek with you and telling you no one could leave the house when playing.....then Kim and I sneaking out of your bedroom window anyway!!!! I could go on and on, but I just wanted to remind you how much I loved you and will miss you, but will never forget you.

Blaze will be spending a lot time with us and Caitlin and Ryan and he will always know what a great daddy you were.

Love you always, Andi-your sister

I was a friend of Adam's from middle school who happened to run into him a week before his birthday. A group of us had gone out together the Saturday night before his accident. This was all very hard to take in when I had found out about this tragedy on Tuesday considering I was just with him. I want to express my deepest condolences and you all are in my thoughts and prayers. To Adam's mother....I wanted to take a minute to let you know that Adam had mentioned you on Saturday night. He had said that growing up you were the only one who looked out for him and if it had not been for you he doesnt know where he would have been. He expressed a lot of love when mentioning you.

Dusty Cliborne is my best friend. I have been with her and her son Blaze through thick and thin. Adam and I spoke on more than one occasion of his love for his son. Blaze is a part of Adam, and through him, Adam's spirit flows. After I learned of Adam's passing, I turned off all the lights in my room and prayed for him as I drifted off to sleep. When I woke up, my desk lamp had "turned itself" on mysteriously. I believe it was Adam telling me not to worry, that he was just fine. Peace and blessings to all of his family and friends.
