Alphonse Suslick Obituary

SUSLICK Alphonse Donald Suslick was born October 22, 1918 in Wilson, Michigan to Peter and Josephine Szuslik. Al passed away at his son's home, with family, on February 13, 2007 following a long battle with cancer. He married Claire Smith Suslick on December 27, 1941. Al received a BA in Accounting and Personnel Administration from the University of Wisconsin in 1941, and an MA in Personnel Administration from George Washington University in 1964. Al had a 23-year career as a U.S. Naval Officer, and retired as a Commander. Al received the American Defense Service Medal, the WWII Victory Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, and the Korean Service Medal while in service. Al retired to his farm in Barhamsville, Va., where he spent the best years of his life, enjoying his orchard, vineyard, and garden. He moved to Fords Colony in Williamsburg, Va., where he enjoyed golf, bridge, and helping his neighbors. Al was a member of St. Bede's Catholic Church in Williamsburg, Va. Al is survived by his wife of 65 years, Claire Suslick; his four children, Dr. Randall H. and Sandra Suslick, Muriel Hastings, Steve and Betsy Penwell, and William and Kim Suslick; five grandchildren, Byron Foltz, Molly Foltz, Chip Foltz, Chad Wagler, and Steve and Teresa Decker; and one great-grandchild, Ryan Decker. Visitation and Funeral Mass will be held on February 15, 2007 at 1 p.m. at St. Luke Catholic Church in Mint Hill, N.C., Father Joe Mulligan presiding. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to your local hospice organization. Arrangements by McEwen - Mint Hill Chapel.
