Andrew Creighton Obituary

Andrew Ryan Creighton

September 11, 1992 - May 15, 2025

Andrew Ryan Creighton, lost his lifelong battle with Spinal Muscular Atrophy on May 15, 2025. Andrew was born on September 11, 1992, in Richmond, Va. He lived his entire life as a resident in Hanover County. He is survived by his parents, Carice and Wayne Smith; grandparents, Martha "Mimi" Creighton and Jackie "MeMe S" Smith; siblings, Jason Smith and Ashley Smith; aunt and uncles, Caryn and Josh Montagnino and Curtis Creighton; sister/cousins, Jenna, Lyndsey and Kenley Martin; nephews, Kyle Higginson, Logan Smith and Liam Smith; niece, Natalie Higginson; also, aunts, uncles and cousins, Les and Elizabeth Smith and family, Barry and Bernie Smith and family, Beth Harris and family. Andrew was preceded in death by his sister, Ashley Carice Creighton; and his beloved grandude, Gary Creighton.

Andrew and family spent his life advocating for SMA and now multiple treatments are available. Andrew was witty, clever, artistic, thoughtful and he had an unimaginable strength. He was a fighter to the end and loved his family more than anything. He had an unwavering faith in God and had a lifelong passion for learning and digging deeper into his own faith, especially disability theology, justice and mercy.

Andrew had very definite thoughts on what he wanted, so we will begin with a quiet time of reflection and visiting with friends and family, on Monday, June 2, 2025, in the Cool Spring Baptist Church Sanctuary, 9283 Atlee Station Road, Mechanicsville, at 12 p.m. We will continue with a service at 1 p.m. honoring the remARCable life of Andrew. A reception will follow at the church.

Donations may be made to one of the following in Andrew's name: P23 Retreat, a local organization supporting grieving families - P23retreat.org/donate; Sweet Grace Ministries, supporting families enduring stillbirth or neonatal death - Sweetgraceministries.com, or Curesma.org.

Deepest condolences to Carice and the family. I was deeply blessed to work with Andrew through Atlee High School to complete his senior course work for graduation about 15 years ago. Together we read Shakespeare, studied the US Constitution, and learned about Geology. He was one of the wisest and bravest souls I´ve encountered and I´m a much better person for it.
