Ann Collins Obituary

Mrs. Ann Fletcher Collins, 65, of Richmond, departed this life and entered eternal life November 21, 2004 after a courageous battle with cancer. Collins; son, Christopher Todd Collins of Jacksonville, Fla.; daughter, Lori Collins Downum and her husband, Daniel; two grandchildren, Corinne Madison Downum and Braxton Daniel Downum; mother-in-law, Mildred O. Collins, all of Richmond; two cousins, Jane Koning and Mary Beth Tygielski, both of Michigan. Countless close friends, who have supported Ann and her family throughout her illness, also survive her. Mrs. Collins was born February 10, 1939 in Chicago, Ill. Mrs. Collins grew up in Pascagoula, Miss. and was a graduate of Pascagoula High School in 1957. She attended the University of Southern Mississippi. On December 5, 1959, she married James M. Collins. They moved to Knoxville in 1962, where her husband attended the University of Tennessee graduate school. In 1967, they moved to Oak Ridge, Tenn. for post doctoral studies. The family moved to Richmond in 1969. Mrs. Collins was active in several civic and social organizations. Mrs. Collins was an active member and twice past president of Tri-Club Women's Club and past co-president of Dunlora Women's Club. Mrs. Collins was involved in running the Tri-Club's Colony Cotillion for many years. She will be missed dearly by all who love and miss her. She will be remembered by her beautiful smile, sweet disposition, warm and caring personality and optimistic outlook. Shortly before her death, she said, "I am not afraid. I know Jesus has prepared a place for me. I am going there to wait for the rest of you." The family will receive friends Sunday, November 28 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd. A memorial service will be held at River Road Presbyterian Church on Monday, November 29 at 10 a.m. Pastor G. Harriss Ricks officiating. Entombment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Henrico Christmas Mother. The family would like to thank everyone for their constant prayers and support.

Deepest sympathy to Ann's husband and children. She was a dear person, always friendly, dependable and more than willing to be of help. It was a pleasure working with her on PTA projects at Byrd and Godwin.
