Aubrey Sculthorpe Obituary

SCULTHORPE, Aubrey Clinton, Well, Dad finally did it! He put away his mixer, whisk, mixing bowls and spoons and said "finished!" What will we the children do, now that there are no more delicious treats to look forward to. Man was he a good cook, ask him, he'd agree. Maybe the children will lose some weight now - probably not.

Dad was a man of many abilities and talents. Mechanic - if it broke down, he'd make it work again. He made and finished furniture, built buildings, did electrical work, you name it, he was on it. Loved a challenge. We are certainly glad for his talents - used them a lot. So did Mom.

He enjoyed a good party and gave many of them through the years. While he claimed to have two left feet, he took disco lessons with Mom and looked a lot like John Travolta when he and Mom got on the dance floor. Everybody had a great time.

He was a very caring person, always willing to help someone else. Man! Were we glad for that. So many things he did for us.

Dad loved to travel, and he and Mom went many places, saw many things and made many memories. His favorite thing to do was to go fishing. It was his passion. Didn't matter if he caught anything or not, but catching a few was a plus.

Dad was the second child of nine children born to Catherine and Andrew Sculthorpe of Chesterfield, Va. He retired after 43 years of service from the Maintenance and Engineering Department of Allied Signal/Honeywell. When asked how he liked retirement, his comment always was "best job I've ever had."

We shall all miss this great man and his love for all of us. Mom most of all after 69 ½ years together. Love you forever Dad.

Duke is survived by his loving wife of 69 ½ years, Betty Norwood Sculthorpe; three children, Cheryl S. Moring of Hopewell, Robert Sculthorpe of Hopewell, and Sharon Sculthorpe of Petersburg; three grandchildren, Robert Wayne Sculthorpe of Chesterfield, Aubrey Ryan Sculthorpe (Delilah) of Colonial Heights, and Nicole Weathers of Hopewell; two great-grandchildren Aubrey "A.J." Sculthorpe and Ava Sculthorpe of Colonial Heights; two sisters, Joyce Handschuh of Dinwiddie and Frances Smith of Prince George; and many nephews, nieces, cousins, and dear friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Petersburg Animal Shelter at 1600 Johnson Rd., Petersburg, VA 23805, Smitty's Cat Rescue at 13508 Route 1, Chester, VA 23831 or The Methodist Family Services Richmond at 3900 West Broad, Richmond, VA 23230.
