Beatrice Eckhaus Goldberg

GOLDBERG, Beatrice Eckhaus, played her last hand Thursday, February 18, 2021. The daughter of Margarete "Gretel" Schattenfeld Eckhaus Z"L and Siegfried Eckhaus Z"L was born in Germany, immigrated to New York City in 1938 and grew up fluent in German and English. Sequestered from teenage romance to Richmond, Beate met true love George Randolph Goldberg Z"L. The strong-as-a-rock mother survived two children, Linda Lisa Goldberg Z"L and Laura Jeanne Goldberg McGehee Z"L; and is survived by two more: Fred Randolph Goldberg and Jacqueline Goldberg Jones; as well as Brazilian daughter, Sonia Carneiro Vivacqua. Bea leaves grandchildren, Madison "Lee" Jones and Jasmine L. Jones; and Brazilian granddaughter, Daniella Vivacqua (Rafael Salomão). Bea is also survived by her childhood sweetheart, first love, Charles Cordero; and by her adoring friends. A fabulous storyteller, avid reader, lifelong learner and traveler, Bea enjoyed word play and games of wit. After she lead scouts, fostered children, volunteered and volunteered, Bea reentered the workforce at Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). An American Contract Bridge League Life Master, Bea competed with bridge players from all over the world. Nominated by her fellow residents and the staff at Beth Sholom Parkside, Bea was recognized by the County of Henrico as "one who exemplifies what it means to be an advocate for her peers." Bea had a strong sense of humor, honor and humility. She will be remembered for generosity of spirit, kindness, devotion to family and a legacy of wisdom and integrity. Bea's family is grateful for the care provided by Beth Sholom Parkside and The Center for Wound Healing at Retreat Doctors' Hospital. A Celebration of Bea will take place when COVID restrictions are lifted. A graveside service will be private.
