SHAUGHNESSY, Bland E., 87, of Richmond, Va., departed this life October 18, 2021. He was born in Richmond April 11, 1934 to the late William Joseph Shaughnessy and Dora Acree Shaughnessy. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Janice DuVal Clarke Shaughnessy; also survived by the mother of his children, Betty Hall Knave; his children, Cynthia Howard (Jeff), Karen Abbate (Jim), Janet Currie (Jeff); also survived by stepchildren, Mary Helen Tinnell, David Clarke (Melody), Daniel Clarke (Kristin), Catherine Clarke and Lissa Alley (Clint); 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He served 41 years in the Richmond Fire Department, starting September 15, 1956 until December 1, 1997. Bland "Shag" served as Assistant Fire Chief from April 21, 1980 until his retirement. After retirement, Bland joined his wife volunteering at Memorial Regional Medical Center, on many worldwide adventure trips, and playing golf with his favorite brother-in-law, the late Marion Hall. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, October 22, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 9505 Gayton Road, Henrico, Va. 23229. Interment is private. The family requests no flowers; a memorial contribution can be made to a charity of your choice. Social distancing and masks will be required.
