Boo Gentil Obituary

Boo Gentil

September 23, 1953 - November 19, 2024

GENTIL, Dorothy Winn (Boo) passed away peacefully on November 19, 2024, while watching the Antiques Roadshow with her daughter, Winn, and her twin sister, Kim, by her side. Boo was born September 23, 1953, in Richmond, VA, to the late Kenneth Gray Gentil and Dorothy Ann Negus Gentil. They were known as the "Westinghouse Twins." She leaves behind a legacy of excellence in both her professional and personal life, touching the hearts of all who knew her. Boo spent two years at Commonwealth Lodge School in Surrey, England, and graduated from The Collegiate Schools. She earned a B.S. in Agriculture with a minor in Interior Design from the University of Georgia in 1976. While at UGA, she was an active member of Phi Mu Sorority forging lifelong friendships and a strong sense of community. Boo's professional career began in public service where she worked as a Field Agent and Inspector for the Georgia Department of Agriculture. She would often regale her family and friends with meat inspections gone awry. In 1986, Boo's lifelong passion for design led her to form Ahead of The Game, a boutique interior design firm in Atlanta, GA. Her keen eye for beauty and design transformed countless homes and her influence in the industry was both respected and admired. Boo's love for helping others extended beyond the realm of design. She became deeply involved in volunteer work including her time as a hospice volunteer and part of the medical team for the Special Olympics in Atlanta from 1994 to 1997. As a Certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) in both Georgia and Virginia, Boo also served with the Tuckahoe Rescue Squad, Medstar Ambulance, and various other organizations always putting the needs of others before her own. She always found ways to give back through her work or her personal kindness. In 2001, she joined her sister, Kim, at The Gentil Company in Richmond, VA, where Boo's expertise in interior design and home staging became invaluable to her clients. Boo was an excellent tennis player, an avid hunter and marksman. She was proficient in trap and skeet shooting. Her enthusiasm for the sport was rivaled only by her love for antique collecting. Boo's passion for the outdoors was matched by her love of family and beloved dogs, Molly and Watson. Being a twin sister, mother and grandmother brought Boo the greatest joy. Her grandchildren were the light of her life and she cherished every moment spent with them. She is survived by her sister, Kimberly Gentil Grubbs; her brothers, Kenneth Gray Gentil, Jr. and Stevens Negus Gentil (Margaret); her daughter, Winn Pierson Boswell (David); her loving grandsons, Waylon and Townes; Winn's father, Joe Holmes Pierson; several nieces and nephews; her loving dog, Finnegan; and many friends who will cherish her memory. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In Lieu of Flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Tunnels to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Blvd, Staten Island, NY 10306. "Twin Sisters make the hard times easier and the easy times more fun." - Kim

So sorry to hear of Boo´s passing, my sister Jody shared the obituary. I have such great memories of skiing with her and Kim, Teddy Bance, Joe Penick and Meredith Williams at Bryce Mtn. We thought that 500 ft vertical, 2 lift ski mountain was the best! Not exactly like Park City, UT where we live now, but we had SO much fun!
