Oh grandaddy, it took me sometime to think about what i really wanted to say & honestly all i can say is, not only being your granddaughter for almost 29 years has been nothing short of amazing these last 5 years have meant more to me than anything else I could imagine, growing up I was my own person & didn´t cherish family the way I should have. But being able to take care of you the last few years you lived in Virginia before moving to Florida with dad meant so much to me, in the time we came up with handshakes talked about the war which I loved more than anything, also loved you always showing me photo albums and always talking about how beautiful your wife was, to telling me about your parents antique store taking you food shopping just to end up getting ice cream. But the most important thing out of the whole thing I finally heard you tell me how proud you were of me and how much you loved me and smiled when I came around, now I will say you weren´t used to kids, but when you met your great grandchildren I´d never seen you smile so much till they started crying you were the best granddaddy father & husband. You took half my heart to heaven the day you left us.

In my short time of knowing Gene at the Atrium this past summer, he never failed to bring a smile to my face. He was brilliant at trivia, a good sport during competition, and a genuinely kind person who constantly looked out for others. I loved getting to talk and watch Cardinals baseball with him and hear about all his Tennessee travels. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed.

My father´s life was a journey of love, resilience, and service. From his time in the Navy to his years as a dedicated husband and father, Dad lived with purpose and heart. His love for walking, history, and his family were just a few of the many ways he showed us how to truly live. I will forever cherish the memories and having him in my home for the last few years where we were able to grow so much closer. I'm thankful for the lessons he passed down, knowing that his legacy will live on in each of us and that I was able to be there in his final hours. I love you.
