Cindy Ellis Obituary
February 27, 1960 - July 23, 2025
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Cindy Gray Ellis. She joined her savior, Jesus Christ, in heaven on July 23, 2025, after a long battle with lung disease. Cindy was born in Richmond, Va., on February 27, 1960. She graduated from Collegiate School before attending Virginia Tech, where she earned a degree in education.
Cindy never aspired to chase titles or fortune; she chose a tougher route: to be a stay-at-home mom. She once joked that she was a great mom until she had children. Despite her health limitations, Cindy put all she had into raising her two children. Her passion for taking care of kids didn't stop at home. She loved to fill back-to-school backpacks for those in need, and her Salvation Army Christmas Tree Angels always enjoyed a special Christmas. Cindy was a strong believer in giving back to her community.
Cindy was also a beach girl through and through. While she loved sitting on the sand with friends at her river home in Dunnsville, she could always hear the warm breezes and gentle seas around Aruba calling her name.
Cindy had a heart and soul filled with faith. She was an active member at Hope Church. She participated in the Thrive program with some incredible ladies, and she was a member of a small group at church that helped strengthen her faith as she battled many health challenges. Cindy surrounded herself with good friends and was quick to offer a compliment to anyone she bumped into.
Cindy is survived by her husband of 37 years, Brian; her daughter, Kaici, and her husband, Chris; her son, Tommy; her brother, George Gray, and his wife, Mary, along with numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. She is also lovingly remembered by her two grandchildren, Madison and Greyson.
Cindy was preceded in death by her parents, George and Dianne Gray, and her younger brother, Bobby.
Cindy's memorial service will be held on August 15, 2025, at 10 a.m. at Hope Church, located at 12445 Patterson Avenue, Richmond, VA 23238. A reception will follow the service.
In honor of Cindy's legacy and her heart for service, the family will assist Hope Church in establishing a new missions fund to support ongoing and future outreach efforts. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to Hope Church, with Cindy's name noted in your gift.
