Clarence E. L. Wall

WALL, Clarence E. L., passed away on Sunday, April 18, 2021, at the age of 86.

A proud U.S. Army veteran and lifelong resident of Richmond, Clarence graduated from Armstrong High School and went on to earn a B.A. from Virginia Union, where he became a dedicated member of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity. Committed to a lifetime of service and helping others, he ultimately earned a master's degree in Social Work from the Richmond Professional Institute (VCU) and went on to enjoy a long and fulfilling career at Central State Hospital. He was also an active member of Hood Temple AME Zion Church, where he served as Chairman of the Trustee Board for over 30 years.

He loved Virginia, his family, his church, catching up with old friends and meeting new people, fishing trips, animals, keeping up with politics, watching sports and he had a special soft spot for Cadillacs. He will be remembered for his incredible warmth, beautiful smile, generosity, optimism and unwavering faith.

Clarence was preceded in death by his parents, Reverend Roosevelt V. Wall Sr. and Lucille Green Wall; as well as his siblings, Roosevelt Jr., Bernice and Linwood. He is survived by his niece, Elizabeth Wall Leatherman and her husband, Jeremy of New York; nephew, Kenneth Armstead of New York; nephew, Roderick Wall of Alabama; as well as his Hood Temple Church family.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 24, in Riverview Cemetery, Richmond. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Building Fund of Hood Temple AME Zion Church in Richmond, for which he worked so hard, or Veterans Moving Forward in Dulles, Va., an organization that trains service dogs for veterans in the state he loved so much.
