He was my father and I adored him. The emptiness I feel inside is unexplainable. I know you are in a much better place and will continue to watch over this family. I will honor my promise to you and it was a privilege to be your daughter. I love you forever..

I always felt that I had a special bond with my grandfather because I was his first grandchild and I our ability to talk sports (especially baseball) watch Seinfeld together. Last summer, I had some of my favorite moments watching the Red Sox play his beloved Yankees, and seeing his love for his team and his emotion when they were committing mistakes. He loved to show me some of his most prized possessions, his World Series ticket stubs, and he glowed with the appreciation and respect I had for that memorabilia. I used to love going over there for dinner and watching Seinfeld with him together and the two of us would laugh like crazy. Before his death I was in Hollywood and I saw the hand and footprints of his favorite celebrity, Frank Sinatra. I had pictures taken of that for him, because I knew how much he would appreciate that. Seinfeld, baseball, and Sinatra, those are memories of my grandfather, and I will eternally treasure those times.

I was lucky enough to be one of Daniel's 14 grandchildren and words can't express the grief that I have felt over the past week. While I didn't know him as a young man or as a father, I knew him very well as a grandfather and for all of my 23 years, his love and consistentcy in my life brough me great joy. From his renowned Italian food to the funny stories he used to tell us girls when we asked about his Jersey City days, there was something perpetual and comforting about the love and fondness that he had for his grandchildren. This is an incredibly hard time for everyone, but because we have so many memories (years and years of memories that is), and such a strong family, we will support Grandma and eachother in getting through this loss and we will carry on Grandpa's honorable legacy.

Dear family,
Words cannot begin to express the sorrow I feel for your loss. Your husband, father, grandfather was truly an amazing man! He had a presence that went far beyond simply his stature, as his gregarious spirit could be felt as soon as he entered a room. To know him was to feel he always had room in his heart for one more friend. His greeting always warm and welcoming, and his generational wit always sure to draw laughter; if not from it's content, then surely from the family's rolling eyes. Simply unnacceptable, is a future of D'Amato gatherings without him; so why he has left such a legacy behind. His loving wife; exemplary of the woman behind the man, and his uniquely spirited children and grandchildren, will forever remind us that his spirit can and will live on forever.
My deepest sympathy and love for all of you,

This man was my grandpa. He was everything and more to me for my entire life and I can only hope I brought him the most joy he could imagine. He deserves it more than anyone I know and his death will reflect on the world around him. We should all strive to live like my grandpa and we should all be so lucky that God graced us with his presence for so many perfect years. I love you grandpa.
Love Caitlin
