David Schwartz Obituary

David M. Schwartz

September 2, 1943 - July 6, 2025

I was born in Atlanta, Georgia on Sept 2, 1943 to Arthur and Martha. I joined my sister Diane who instilled in me the love of reading, how to disagree agreeably and how wonderful love can be between a brother and sister.

I am most grateful to Anne, my wife of 59 years. You always strived to make me a better person, and did well. You are the best wife and friend one could ever have.

Thanks to my children, Marjorie (Mark), Rabbi Michael (Tamar) and Leslie (Eyal). I admire your independence, intelligence, creativity, and the values you live by. You have blessed us with wonderful grandchildren: Yamie, Hannah, Max, Yarden, Grace, Zohar and David.

I thank all my nieces and nephews for being tolerant of my idiosyncrasies and failed attempts at humor and advice.

To Stephen, my cousin, a smart guy; thanks for the fun and stimulation we had debating issues whether life is more complicated now than in the past.

Thanks to my colleagues at Crestar Bank (Truist) from 1974-April 1,1999, where I served as Senior Vice-President for Corporate Tax. You provided me with great advice, laughs, companionship, and empathy during many difficulties with the IRS and the corporate bureaucracy that we all shared.

Thanks to my golf buddies at Hermitage Country Club, Dick and Fred. You taught me great humility and the ability to laugh at ourselves as we became worse and worse over the years.

Thanks to the members of the UNC basketball teams from 1957 until now. Your victories over Duke were always a cause for celebration. Your grace whether winning or occasionally losing gave me so much pride in my Alma Mater (1965).

Next, thanks to the Richmond Times Dispatch, whose papers I read with my morning coffee every day since 1974. Thanks on the morning of July 30,1998 when you named me Correspondent of the Day. I have wondered why you no longer carry this feature.

Finally, thanks to anyone who has read this entire obit. I hope you found it worth your time. If my words are not politically correct, please know that I had no intentions to be so.

To those who attend my funeral service thanks for coming. As Yogi Berra said, "If you will not be there, don't worry: I won't be at your funeral either!"

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 9th, 11 a.m., at Bliley's Funeral Home, 3801 Augusta Ave. Burial following at Hebrew Cemetery, 4th St. & Hospital St. - Richmond, VA 23219.

David was a wonderful neighbor on Harborough Road for the 32 years that Larry and I lived there. David and Anne were also fellow congregants at Congregation Beth Ahabah - there was much in common.
David always provided humor and levity to most any situation. From time to time he would walk around the block with one or both of us, dogs included of course, to discuss the events of the time. He will be missed.

It is the good memories we collect and people we meet as we walk the narrow path of our life. David is one of those memories that touches our soul as a friend. And brings dignity to our lives.
