Diane Mary Strobl

April 11, 1944 - November 23, 2025

Diane Mary Strobl passed peacefully on Sunday, November 23, 2025, at the age of 81 from complications of Primary CNS Lymphoma. Born on April 11, 1944 in Rochester, New York, Diane is the daughter of Roy Leckinger and Kathleen Leckinger.

Diane was employed for several years at Kodak in Rochester, New York where she met her husband, Ken, in the Kodak Ski Club. After several years enjoying Blacksburg while Ken was a graduate student at Virginia Tech, Diane and Ken moved to Richmond, Virginia. After several years raising her daughter, Lori, she began at working at Robious Elementary where she thoroughly enjoyed the students until her retirement. Much of her retirement time and her greatest enjoyment was attending Virginia Tech sporting events with her family and friends.

Diane was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Kathleen Leckinger, her sister Sue Wheaton, her brother-in-law Donald Strobl and her husband Kenneth Strobl. She is survived by her daughter Lori Strobl (Gregory Cole), her step-grandkids Laura and Nathan Cole, her sister-in-law Sally Strobl, her brother-in-law Bill Wheaton and her nieces Staci Strobl (Matt Michaels) and Kerry DiGioia (Scott).

A small family and friends celebration of Diane, and her husband Ken's lives, will occur this spring in Blacksburg, Virginia. Their remains will be interred in the Columbarium on the campus of Virginia Tech where they had many of their happiest memories.

The family would like to thank all of the clinicians who cared for Diane during her short illness, especially her loving caregiver and friend, Vivian. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Chesterfield-Colonial Heights Christmas Mother Program. https://cchchristmasmother.com/

Diane´s passion was always for children. She especially loved being a part the Christmas Mother program and the Angel Tree program. My fondest memory of her was all the love and care she put into making sure children (including my own) all had something special to look forward to. This was not just something she did, but something she got her whole family involved in. Her impact over the years has reached many and her loss is being grieved greatly.

Diane was a wonderful friend and she will be missed by many. I am blessed to have known Diane the last several years. I wish we could have had more years with Diane but God was ready for her. God bless her family. May Diane continue to be with us in our hearts and memories

I knew Diane as a co-worker, parent of Lori, my student, and as a fellow HOKIE supporter and friend. The memories of her sense of humor and that twinkle in her eyes when she was joking will always bring a smile to my face. She and Ken raised a wonderful daughter!!
Sending hugs and love to you ,Lori.
