Diane Williams Obituary
June 13, 1954 - January 29, 2025
WILLIAMS, Diane Gresham, 70, of Mechanicsville, VA, formerly of West Point, VA, passed away on January 29, 2025.
Diane is survived by her husband of 47 years, J. Michael Williams of Mechanicsville; her daughter, Kaitlyn Dianne Williams, of Henrico, VA, formerly of Mechanicsville.
Diane was predeceased by her parents, James B. "Sonny" and Lois Lewis Gresham of West Point; and her brother, Linwood B. Gresham of Water View.
Additionally, she is survived by her nephew, Brian Gresham; and his mother, Susan Gresham of King and Queen; her nephew, Scott (Chris) of Scottsville; her uncle and aunts, Clarence Gresham of Remlik, Alice Mae Carlton of Hartfield, Edith Smith of Water View, and Julia Gresham of Mattaponi.
Diane was employed by the Henrico County School System for 30 years as a full-time instructor at Baker and Seven Pines Elementary Schools, then completed an additional 10 years as a part-time instructor for the school system. Diane won the Teacher of the Year award in 1998 while at Seven Pines Elementary School.
Diane was a member of the Gamma Chi chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Honorary Society for KEY WOMEN EDUCATORS.
She was a graduate of Longwood College and a proud member of the Class of 1976, Longwood's last all-female class at the college.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m., and 6 to 8 p.m., on Friday, February 7, 2025, at Monaghan Funeral Home, 7300 Creighton Parkway, Mechanicsville, VA 23111. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at 11 a.m., at Compass Christian Church, 8137 Liberty Circle, Mechanicsville, VA 23111. A luncheon will follow in the church hall. The interment will be at Greenwood Memorial Gardens in Goochland County at 2:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for contributions to be made in Diane's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee at 501 Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105; The American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741; or Compass Christian Church, 8137 Liberty Circle, Mechanicsville, VA 23111.
