Edward Darling Obituary

DARLING, Edward Crosby II, "Pete", 93, died on April 1, 2024. He was the son of Kent C Darling and Nelle Payne Darling Marks and is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ann, and their son Ross P. Darling, his wife Bryna, and their children, Peter Jacob Darling and Zachary Thrasher Darling. He is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Kent Darling Bussure, and her husband Art of Athens, GA, her sons Kendall Raine (Amy) and their children Olivia and Harrison, Kent Raine (Micaela), and their children Tulai and Bowden. Mr. Darling was preceded in death by their son, Kent C. Darling II of Langhorne, PA.

He attended St. Christopher's School, Woodberry Forest School and graduated from Washington & Lee University in 1952. Following service with the United States Navy as a Lieutenant JG during the Korean War, he joined First and Merchants Bank (now a part of Bank of America) in 1956 and held various positions including Vice-Chairman before leaving to join Davenport & Co. in 1979. He regarded his years at Davenport as being some of the most enjoyable in a business career that spanned more than sixty years. He was a former Chairman of the Collegiate Schools and also served as the President of the Country Club of Virginia and the Gulf Stream Golf Club in Gulf Stream, FL. An enthusiastic golfer, he won the RGA Senior Championship in 1986 and the Championship of the Country Club of Virginia the same year. He also qualified on two occasions for the USGA Senior Amateur Championship. An equally enthusiastic fisherman, he and his son spent many a day fishing for sailfish and marlin locally and in the Caribbean and Pacific.

He was a member of the Country Club of Virginia, the Commonwealth Club, the Gulf Stream Golf Club, and the Little Club in Gulf Stream, FL. A private service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Collegiate Schools or Westminster Canterbury for inclusion in the Martha Thrasher Education Fund or a charity of your choice.
