Edwin Rice Hughes

HUGHES, Edwin Rice, 85, of Hanover, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Elizabeth Rice Hughes, and is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Faye Owen Hughes; two daughters, Elizabeth Hughes Saas (Jim) and Sandra Hughes Krevonick (Dave); three grandchildren, Edwin Webster Krevonick (Hayley), Peyton Krevonick Barlow (Jared), and Casey Elizabeth Saas; and three great-grandchildren, Reid, Jake, and Briggs.

Edwin was a caring and compassionate family man. He enjoyed spending time at the river boating with his family at his home in Reedville, VA. He never met a stranger and was always ready to lend a helping hand. His generosity and kindness touched the lives of everyone he encountered. Edwin was the owner of Hughes Steel Co. and Hughes Enterprises. He was a member of Tuckahoe Lodge #347 AF & AM, the Scottish Rite Bodies, the ACCA Temple Shrine, and the Mechanicsville Kiwanis Club.

The family will receive friends from 9 to 10 a.m., with funeral services and Masonic Rites beginning at 10 a.m., Thursday, June 20, 2024, at the Mechanicsville Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd. Mausoleum entombment will follow at Signal Hill Memorial Park. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Bethany UMC, 454 Main St., Reedville, VA 22539, ACCA Temple Shrine, 1712 Bellevue Ave, Richmond, VA 23227, Tuckahoe Lodge # 347, 5500 Bethlehem Rd, Richmond, VA 23230 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
