UHRIG, Elinor "Elly" Keiser, of Chesterfield, Va., passed away February 10, 2021, at the age of 88. She was born in 1932 in Easton, Pa. Elly spent her youth in Philadelphia and Easton and summers at "Lenape Village" on Fairview Lake in the Poconos. Elly was a 1950 graduate of the Westtown School and then attended Syracuse and Cornell Universities. In 1953, before completing a degree, Elly eloped with her lifelong love, Lt. Richard "Dick" Anton Uhrig. They were married for 67 years until her death. The U.S. Army shipped Dick off to Germany; Elly followed a month later. In 1958, they returned stateside, with assignments at Fort Bragg N.C., Fort McClellan Ala. and Camillus, N.Y. In 1967, they moved to Chester, Va. and resided at their home on Percival Street for nearly 44 years. In 2011, they moved to the retirement community at Lucy Corr Village. Elly was first and foremost a homemaker. Outside the home, Elly was active in Chester Presbyterian Church, school PTAs, substitute teaching, Girl Scouts, Chester Women's Club and other organizations and activities escaping her children's memories. Elly was preceded in death by her parents, James Ralph Keiser and Mary Katherine Semple; and her brother, James Ralph Keiser Jr. In addition to her husband, she is survived by eight children, Rick, Lee, Bob, Shirley Griffith, Kathy Braun, Mary Phillips, Tom and Bill; 15 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. More than anything, Elly wanted to have a large and loving family; at this, she succeeded exceedingly well. Plans for an in-person funeral remain TBD. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Chester Presbyterian Church.
