Emma Robinson Livingstone

LIVINGSTONE Emma Robinson Livingstone, 88, of Richmond, died Friday, January 5, 2007 at a local hospital. She was the devoted wife of David H. Livingstone. Born in Indianapolis, Ind. on December 2, 1918, she was the daughter of Harley Austin and Mabel Robinson. During WWII, she worked for a time with Indiana Bell Telephone on a switchboard and also with General Motors Corporation in Indianapolis, Ind. She graduated from Indiana University with a degree in journalism in 1960. While attending Indiana, she re-organized several libraries of the Department of Journalism into one library. She worked for five years for the Lafayette Leader, a weekly newspaper in Lafayette, Ind. When she and David moved to California in 1961, she worked for the American Cancer Society doing field interviews of cancer survivors. In Richmond, she worked for Reynolds Metal Company, and for 10 years as a reporter for the Richmond Times-Dispatch. Later she worked for Hyatt Richmond. She also did substitute teaching in the Henrico County Public School system. She helped to organize the Richmond Chapter of the National Council for Geocosmic Research. Later she became a volunteer for the Science Museum of Virginia and served on the board of the museum's volunteer association. Survivors, besides her husband, include, three grandnieces in Sacramento, Calif., a nephew in Martinez, Calif., as well as numerous friends in Richmond and elsewhere. Friends will be received 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Bliley Funeral Homes' Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Road. Donations may be made in Emma's name to the Science Museum of Virginia Foundation in support of the Volunteer Office. Interment private.
