Eugene Rushton Obituary

Eugene Ray Rushton IV, 43, of Charlottesville, died December 26, 2004, at his home. Born June 8, 1961, in Charlottesville, he was the son of Virginia Watson Rushton and the late Eugene Ray Rushton III. He was a 1979 graduate of Western Albemarle High School and a 1983 Virginia Military Institute graduate with a B.S. degree. He played football for VMI as a defensive linebacker for three years and received an honorary scholarship award. Ray was a defensive coach for his son's little league football team, the Monticello Saints. He was a member of Farmington Country Club and Westminster Presbyterian Church. Ray was a senior vice-president/investments at Davenport & Co. In addition to his mother and her longtime companion, Michael Childress of Rainelle, W.Va., he is survived by his children: a daughter, Hagan Anne Rushton; a son, Eugene Ray Rushton V; and their mother, Carolyn Bolen Rushton, all of Charlottesville; a maternal grandmother, Lois Watson, also of Charlottesville; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, classmates and boyhood friends. The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 1, 2005, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Hill & Wood Funeral Home. Friends are welcome to visit at the home of his mother, 2408 Pine Garth Run, anytime on Friday afternoon, December 31, 2004. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 2, 2005, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 190 Rugby Rd., Charlottesville. Interment will follow at Monticello Memory Gardens. Remembrances in the form of flowers or memorial contributions to the American Heart Association, 3025 Berkmar Drive, Charlottesville, Va. 22901 or the V.M.I. Keydet Club, P.O. Box 932, Lexington, Va. 24450 are appreciated.

Dear Mrs. Rushton and family,



Know that my thoughts are with you during this difficult time. I feel fortunate to have spent a few moments with Ray at our 25th High School Reunion this past August. He will be greatly missed by his friends and the community.
