Fay Stanley Brown

BROWN, Fay Stanley, 86, of Mechanicsville, Virginia went to be with the Lord on Monday, October 16, 2023, a few days shy of her 87th birthday. Fay lived a life of compassion and purpose. Born in Four Oaks, NC to Eva Pearl Tart Stanley and William Howard Stanley, Fay grew up to be the sweetest, kindest and most giving person many have known. Fay is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Terry W. Brown, Sr.; her brother, Owen Stanley; and her sister, Wilma McLamb. She is survived by her son, Terry W. Brown, Jr.; her sisters, Doris Alexander and Linda Barrett; and her brother, Ricky Stanley. Fay dedicated her life to caring for others; she served as an ER nurse for 50 years, and devoted her energies to leading the Mechanicsville Baptist Church "You & I" Sunday School class in recent years. Always compassionate, she never missed an opportunity to send a lovely, thoughtful card or to make a quick call to say hello to those who needed kindness and camaraderie. Many will fondly remember Fay's talent for baking; her famous coconut cake and pineapple-pretzel salad graced many a church gathering. All will remember the poise and grace with which Fay carried herself through every day, holding herself to a dignified compassion that offered sincerity and love to any project Fay decided to dedicate herself to. That dedication will be sorely missed, from her classmates in Four Oaks, NC, where she attended school; to her colleagues and friends, with whom she kept in close contact over decades; to her Mechanicsville community, who rallied around her in recent months as she grieved the passing of her life-long love. Fay was truly a reflection of the people around her, and she lived her life in service to God, family, and community.

The Brown and Stanley family will receive friends on Sunday, October 22, 2023, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Monaghan Funeral Home, 7300 Creighton Parkway, Mechanicsville 23111. A funeral service will be held Monday, October 23, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Mechanicsville Baptist Church, 8016 Atlee Road, Mechanicsville, 23111 followed by an interment service at 3 p.m. at Four Oaks Cemetery in Four Oaks, NC.
