Floyd Dare Cox

COX, Floyd Dare Dunn, 93, of Mechanicsville, passed away Sunday, April 24, 2022 after a brief bout with lymphoma. She was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Robert George Cox (Bobby); her parents, Floyd Harwood and Thelma Walker Dunn of Deltaville, Va.; and sister, Lucy M. Dunn Rosquist, also of Deltaville. She is survived by her daughter, Terry Cox (Robert Stone) of Varina; son, Robert G. Cox Jr. (Lisa Adams) of Suffolk; granddaughters, Mallory Remy (Jordan) of Suffolk and Virginia Cox of Fredericksburg; stepgranddaughters, Dr. Karen Prine of Venice, Fla., Amanda Prine Bryant (Eric) of Lexington, Ky., Roberta Burton of Williamsburg; great-granddaughter, Gwen Remy; stepgreat-granddaughter, Lillian Bryant; stepgreat-grandson, Boone Bryant. Floyd Dare loved flowers and was a founding member of the Old Ivy Garden Club. She carried her love of flowers with her to the Hermitage Senior Living Community, where she continued to fill garden boxes with colorful flowers throughout the seasons. She served as a volunteer for over 20 years at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden. She was a lifetime member of Cool Spring Baptist Church, where she participated with the Ruth Class in many community projects. Floyd Dare loved to travel and during retirement, she and Bobby made many trips abroad, including Devon, England to visit her life-long pen pal, Vera. The family will receive friends starting at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 29, 2022 at Cool Spring Baptist Church, 9283 Atlee Station Road, Mechanicsville, Va., followed by a Celebration of Life and reception.
