Fraklin Tatum Obituary
Franklin M. Tatum, III passed away December 7, 2025 at the age of 79. He is survived by Kathryn Hardcastle Tatum, his wife of 59 years; daughters Susan Tatum Hochgesang and Ann Tatum Boltin (Jay); grandchildren Katrina, Wolfhard, Alexander and Grace; and siblings Paul T. Tatum (Debra) and Jane Tatum Reid.
Frank had a discerning mind and almost-photographic memory, which he employed in his career as a products liability lawyer. His no-nonsense manner and hard edge did nothing to diminish his accomplishments -- which were legendary, even for someone who was sighted. His ability to handle the components of large, complex cases was unparalleled and earned him nationwide respect.
After winning the Mississippi State high school debate championship, Frank went on to Texas Christian University where he graduated cum laude. He then attended Vanderbilt Law school, where he served as editor of the Law Review. After graduation, he moved to Richmond, Virginia and practiced in the litigation department of McGuire, Woods & Battle. Eventually Frank and several partners formed the firm of Wright, Robinson, McCammon, Osthimer & Tatum. Frank guided this firm's expansion and established its national presence, which led to the creation of its West Coast office in Los Angeles.
Meanwhile, Frank traveled the globe with Kathy by his side. He delighted in local cuisine and fine wine. He knew an astonishing number of chefs by name. When he retired to Indian Wells, California, Frank became a valued member of the wine committee for The Vintage Club. He kept up with the news, learned modern technology and delighted in intelligent conversation. He will be remembered not only as a gifted scholar and counselor, but as a man who lived life on his own terms.
A memorial Celebration of Life is planned for a later date.
