I was never able to connect with Mel after I left RAF Bentwaters. I checked on him when he had surgery, appendix I think. He was such a great friend. We would spend hours talking and listening to music as well as playing guitar. I loved traveling with him to Belgium. That was his favorite place and he had plans to live there after he left the Air Force. I hope he was able to realize that goal. We had some great times and lots of laughter and fun. The last letter I received from him was where he returned money I sent him that I owed for a trip we took. He told me to pay him back when I got my degree. Such a nice and giving guy.

My deepest condolences to all who knew this truly gifted and unique man. Mel was a good friend of mine back in our Airforce days at Langley. this is when I got to know him. we would spend countless hours playing music together how I miss those days. I still play and even have an old recording of us playing guitar and banjo. A song we wrote. What fun it was. As the years went by and we loss touch with each other. He would often call my parents and check on me. they miss his calls and ask about him from time to time. I have spent decades trying to find him. today was the day that I finally found him. A few days to late. today is a very sad day for me as well. I can only say that some day when its my time to go, then him and will get to play music again. Good bye my old friend. I have missed you for so long. God bless you and your family.

Sending our sincere condolences to our family in the loss of our cousin, Mel. Though it's been years since we've been in contact with each other, I remember his wonderful smile and our fun conversations and his love for music. Mel will be greatly missed.
