Glen Brooks Obituary

BROOKS, Glen Keith, Glen Keith Brooks died suddenly of a heart attack on 8th December 2023 in Richmond, Virginia.

Glen was born in Barnehurst, England on 13th April 1960. The family moved to Seven Oaks, Kent. He attended Longfield High School in Kent before completing his OND and HND in Building Technology at Medway College of Technology. It was while at high school that he enjoyed football and cross country running and later joined Blackheath Harriers where he participated in track competitions.

Because of his achievements in England, he was presented with a scholarship to the University of Richmond, running for the track team. And so, he started his new life in the United States.

Although he lived in the United States for more than forty years, Glen kept up his English tradition of following his childhood football team, Tottenham Hotspur, and enjoying sharing match days with his Richmond friends over a couple of English pints.

Construction was always in the family blood. After working for Woolfolk Construction, Inc. as a senior project manager for many years, Glen set up on his own building company. He enjoyed his work for a number of years in the Richmond area, and beyond making new friends and acquaintances. He even had time during these years to get his pilot's license. Following retirement, Glen moved from his home in Goochland to Rocketts Landing, enjoying socializing at the pool where he read his Wall Street Journal.

He loved organizing adventures for the family, including ski trips to California, Austria, West Virginia, with occasional side visits to the Greenbriar. Sunnier visits were taken in Arizona, Florida, Spain, Grand Cayman, Eleuthera, Green Turtle Key and Grand Bahama. Glen would always be the party planner and have cocktails on the go. Got the boys together for ski trips and of late, Cuba and Aruba.

He enjoyed entertaining and took the opportunity to sign up for cooking classes, and over the years became quite the gourmet chef. You should have tried his version of Oyster Rockefeller.

Glen was predeceased by his parents, Frank Gordon Brooks and Elsie Wolfenden, together with his brother Nigel Ian Brooks. He is survived by his sibling Neil Michael Brooks and his wife Mary of Hartley, England, his nephew Stuart Michael Brooks, his wife Sheri and grandnephew Harrison Michael Brooks of Haddon, New Jersey, his niece Karen Lyndsay White, her husband Terry and grandnieces Sienna Brooke White and Darcey Elizabeth White of Halling, England.

Glen was a kind and giving man, never asking for anything in return. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and many friends both here and abroad.

A memorial service will be held at Saint John's Episcopal Church, 2401 East Broad Street, Church Hill, on March 9, 2024 at two o'clock.
