Glenna Smith Obituary

SMITH, Glenna M., Glenna Mills Smith, 94, of Bon Air, Virginia, passed peacefully into the arms of her Heavenly Father on February 26, 2024, after a brief illness.

Glenna was predeceased by her parents, Henry Mills and Bessie Walker Mills of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, five brothers and sisters, her loving husband of 56 years, George R. Smith, DDS, and her daughter-in-law, Donna R. Smith. She is survived by her two sons, Derek L. Smith (Jason) and Dean C. Smith, five grandchildren, Matthew Smith, Christiane Reeder (Jason), Evan Smith (Miki), Emily Chaves (Mike), and Elliott Smith, seven great-grandchildren, Stephanie, Michael, Henry, Leo, Cora, Cameron and Carrington, and her devoted niece, Beverly Womeldorf.

Glenna attended Berea College in Kentucky, following which she married George, and moved to Memphis where he graduated from the University of Tennessee School of Dentistry, and later to Bon Air where he practiced dentistry for many years. In addition to being an excellent cook, homemaker, hostess for George's family and West Virginia friends, and occasional referee for her sons, Glenna also worked as a bank teller and medical receptionist. She was a former member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and also attended Bon Air Baptist Church.

To know Glenna was to know she was a passionate and accomplished golfer. She was the Ladies Golf Champion at Willow Oaks Country Club in 1971, 1978 and 1982, as well as Medalist in 1997 at age 68. Glenna competed in numerous city-wide tournaments and state team matches. She excelled at match play, which brought out her best competitive spirit.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 19 at 3 p.m. at the Amelia Veterans Cemetery where her cremains will rest with George's.
