Gloria G. Layne, 82, of Louisa County passed away on October 22, 2025, at Spring Oak in Louisa, Va., surrounded by her family.
She was the daughter of the late William G. Gammon and Florence P. Gammon. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Arnold Mack Layne. She is survived by her children, Charlene L. McCray (Teresa), Linda L. Buckler (Ernie) and William A. Layne (Lisa); grandchildren, Jeffrey A. Buckler (Kayla), Evan A. McCray (Lauren), Christian L. Buckler (Cheyenne), Caroline McCray (Will) and Eric Taylor (David); great-grandchildren, Nora McCray, Archer McCray, Beau Buckler, River Rose Buckler and Riley Rychcik; brothers, William G. (Buzz) Gammon Jr. (Ann), Michael W. Gammon (Susan) and sister, Doris G. Hughes (the late Carter Hughes) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Gloria graduated from Louisa County High School in the class of 1961. She worked at DMV, Thalhimers, and the Louisa County Treasurer's office. In 2000, she was the first woman elected as Treasurer of Louisa County, serving 3 terms before retiring in 2011. She is remembered for her generosity and kindness to others, her lively spirit and her love for dancing.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, October 27 and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 28 at Woodward Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 28 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. A reception will follow the burial to be announced at the Funeral.
