Grat Champ Obituary
Mr. Grat D. Champ, Sr., 96, of Richmond, VA, passed peacefully into the presence of his Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, December 1, 2025. Mr. Champ was born in Princeton, WV, on January 30, 1929. He married the love of his life, Mina, in 1951 and was a United States Army Veteran, having served honorably from 1951-1953 during the Korean conflict in the 99th Field Artillery Battalion 1st Cavalry Division. After completing his military service while working at Martin Air, he attended trade school for three years, earning his qualifications as an automotive mechanic. He devoted his career to diesel mechanics, working for both McLean Trucking Company and Avis until his retirement. Most notably, however, was the day he accepted Christ as his Savior. Having understood that he was a sinner, he turned to Christ to save him from his sin in February 1970 and was a changed man from that point on. He was a member of Faith Memorial Baptist Church.
Mr. Champ is survived by his wife of 74 years, Mina June Spriggs Champ; his children, Linda C. Gregory, Donna C. Fogg, G. David Champ, Jr., (Lisa), and Kerry C. Lindsey (Buddy); his 17 grandchildren; his 23 great-grandchildren; and his six great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, James H. and Mollie B. Champ, as well as seven siblings.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. followed by a service at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, December 10, 2025 at Morrissett Funeral & Cremation service, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd, N. Chesterfield, VA 23234. Interment with military honors to follow at 2 p.m. at the Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia, 10300 Pridesville Rd, Amelia Court House, VA 23002.
