Helve Clough Obituary

CLOUGH, Helve Viitel, died after a struggle with cancer on June 4, 2024. She was born on May 20, 1943, in Viljandi, Estonia. Her family fled to Augsberg, Germany in 1944 and then moved to the United States in 1950 when the family settled in Seabrook, New Jersey. She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in Dental Hygiene. She practiced her profession first in Paoli, Pennsylvania, and then in Richmond, Virginia. She loved the outdoors, the beach, the rivers, and the mountains. She spent many summers sailing on the Chesapeake Bay and later on the St. Lawrence River where she enjoyed her summer home. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mare and Peeter Viitel, and her sister Urve Moyer. She leaves behind her husband, Stuart Clough, her daughters Marnie Hawk (Andy) and Inga Falterman (Brett), and her grandchildren Jake, Juniper, and Moss, as well as many good friends in Richmond and the Thousand Islands where she was active in the Antique and Classic Boat Society.

There will be a small gathering for family and friends at the Clough home at 3 p.m. on Friday, June 14, 2024. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Helve's name to the Antique Boat Museum in Clayton, New York. The family thanks you for your love and support.

I have many wonderful memories of such a sweet and tender woman. Knew her when she was vibrant and full of life at the River. We will miss you. My heart breaks for Stewart and the rest of the family. Rest in peace Helve.

I worked with Helve at Dr. Cumbey's for many years. I lost touch over the years. She was a wonderful lady.
