ATKINS, Henry Lewis, 97, died peacefully at home on July 11, 2022. He was born on August 6, 1924. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Mary L. Atkins; and his son, Raymond L. Atkins. He is survived by his daughters, Rose Mary Stone and Kathy Parker (Frankie) and Ann Jones; nine grandchildren, Tony Stone (Tammy), Steven Stone (Terry), Jennifer Longest (Donnie), April Roche (AJ), Melissa Parker, Ray Atkins (Ashley), Allison Dobbs (William), Rebecca Parker (Nicole), Wint Parker and Victoria Pleasants; 10 great-grandchildren, Adam Stone (Amanda), Dylan Longest (Hannah), Loghan Rudolph (Zac), Summer Ransone (Eli), Evan, Skyler and Ty Stone, Tripp, Piper and Gunner Atkins; six great-great-grandchildren, Hudson, Ada, Hayes, Grey, Halston and Ali Rose. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Eva and John Atkins; 11 siblings, Mary, Cassie, Wilbert, Gladys, Clarence, Ruth, Clyde, Edith, his twin sister, Evelyn, Meredith, Ethel; and his second wife, Peggy P. Atkins. He served in WWII and was Normandy Beach survivor. He worked for the U.S. Navy for 30 years. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, sibling, uncle and friend. He was caring, kind and always willing to lend a helping hand. He was a member of Bruington Baptist Church. Viewing will be Saturday, July 16 at the B.W. White Funeral Home in Aylett, Va., from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. with the funeral service at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 17 at B.W. White Funeral Home in Aylett, with interment at Bruington Baptist Church, Bruington, Va.
