Herbert Powell Obituary

POWELL, Herbert Lester "Les", Jr., of Timberlake, N.C., passed away January 3, 2021. He was born in Halifax County, Va., on November 29, 1954 and was 66 years of age. He was the son of the late Herbert Lester Powell Sr. and the late Shirley Burton Powell.

He was a member of Ash Avenue Baptist Church and Virginia State Police Association. He was a retired Master Trooper of the Virginia State Police after 27 years of service.

Herbert Lester Powell Jr. is survived by his son, Christopher Brice Powell of Chesterfield; three grandchildren, Candence Powell, Conner Powell and Hazel Powell; siblings, Jenny Vestal (Roger) of Timberlake, Mary Jane Ware of Rutherford, N.C., Anthony Powell of South Boston; a host of nieces, nephews, friends and caregivers.

A private graveside service will be held Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at 11 a.m. at Halifax Memorial Gardens with the Virginia State Police Chaplin, Sr. Trooper Joseph Naylor officiating. Regarding the CDC guidelines with COVID-19, we recommend the wearing of face mask and social distancing.

So very sorry for the loss of Les and Mr. Vestal. Wish we could be there in person for their funeral services. Please know we´ll be there in Spirit and will be praying for GOD´ s peace and comfort for the entire family now and in the days ahead! Love you..
