Herman Kiger Obituary

KIGER, Herman Monroe, Jr., 88, went to be with Jesus on November 7, 2021 surrounded by family, including his beloved wife of 67 years, Nancy; two daughters, Vicki L. Kiger and Carol Kiger-Rice; and son-in-law, Wayne Kiger-Rice. He was born in Winston-Salem, N.C., the son of the late Mary Vestal Kiger and Herman Monroe Kiger Sr. He was the oldest of 11 children and leaves behind four sisters and four brothers. He enjoyed many rounds of golf at Meadowbrook County Club upon his retirement from DuPont after 32 years of service as an engineer and supervisor. He loved his Wolfpack, having graduated from North Carolina State University in 1960 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was an elected member of Tau Beta Pi, the national engineering honor society. He honorably served in the U.S. Army at Ft. Gordon, Ga. He was a proud Eagle Scout and was also nominated for the national Boys' Clubs of America Junior Citizenship Award, which recognized the top seven Boys' Club members in the nation. He started working at a young age delivering papers and groceries and exhibited an incredibly strong work ethic, which was evident in every facet of his life. He had a great love of sports, particularly baseball, which he excelled at as a senior at Gray High School in Winston-Salem. He had a great thirst for knowledge and was a voracious reader. He was highly respected by everyone he met and will be greatly missed by his family. A memorial reception will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in his name to the V Foundation (www.v.org), or to Beulah United Methodist Church (www.beulahumc.org).

You will always be in my mind and heart Herman. What a wonderful friend, golf partner in too many matches to count, and an advisor. In my mind I can hear your laughter and of course your putting instructions. Love you Pal and we will meet again.
