Herman "Jackie" Layne Jr., 83, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2025.
Jackie was born in Wytheville, VA, on May 9, 1942. He lived a life filled with joy, curiosity, and deep passions that shaped every day he was given. He spent 47 dedicated years at DuPont working as a pipe fitter, where his strong work ethic, skill, and loyalty earned the respect of all who worked beside him.
Jackie was an avid sports fan, spending his free time coaching youth football and baseball and rarely missed a chance to cheer on his favorite teams, the Atlanta Braves and the Washington Redskins.
He also had a lifelong love of building and creating with Legos, a hobby that reflected both his imagination and his patient, thoughtful nature. His appreciation for classic cars brought him countless hours of enjoyment, whether admiring their craftsmanship or sharing stories about his favorites.
Jackie's interests reflected his vibrant spirit, and those who knew him will forever remember the warmth, enthusiasm, and heart he brought to their lives.
Herman is survived by his son, Andrew "Shea" Layne Sr.; sisters, Judy Wilson, and Diane Layne; brother, Timmy (Donna) Layne; grandsons, Andrew "Drew" Layne Jr., and Christopher "Jack" Layne Jr., and his daughter-in-law, Mandy Layne.
Herman is preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Layne, parents, Herman and Nita Layne, and son, Christopher Layne Sr.
A visitation for Jackie will be held Thursday, December 11, at 6 p.m. at Morrissett Funeral & Cremation Service, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd, N. Chesterfield, VA 23234 followed by a celebration of life beginning at 7 p.m.

Remember living next door to Jackie and we played all the time. We would play with our other cousins OC, Danny, Stafford, Tootie, Cecil and my brother Mason. Our Grandmother Layne was a big part of our lives. We all love her dearly. We all grew apart as we grow to be adults. So sad as once we were so close. Loved you Jackie. Your cousin Lana Faye and we had the same birth month yours the 9 and mine was the 19th. Yours was 1942 and mine 1945. So sorry for your loss and will keep you in our prayers. Love ya
