Horace Allen Obituary

On October 12, 2025, Horace Lee Allen III, 74, died peacefully at John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore after a lifelong (and mostly very successful) battle with his congenital heart defect, Tetralogy of Fallot. With his single-minded determination and cheerful, optimistic spirit he turned a prognosis of not living to adulthood into a life well lived for 74 years. His family will dearly miss him. They are wife Mary; son Noah, his wife Rebecca, and their daughter Grace; son Michael, his wife Julianne, and their children James, Ava, and Jaxon (Ace); and his loving sister Iris, and her children James, and Melissa.

Horace retired after 35 years as Senior Vice President of Treasury Management Sales at SunTrust Bank. He loved to fish, travel, coach little league, cheer on the Cowboys, go to JMU football games, play golf, have a beer with friends, and grill the family's favorite BBQ ribs. But his two wonderful sons and four precious grandchildren were his greatest joys in life, and he felt like he was the luckiest man alive.

We all feel blessed to be a part of his journey, and Michael said it best last weekend at his bedside:

"Thank you for always fighting your heart condition. You've never complained, you just did what you needed to do to stay with us as long as possible and defied all odds. Most kids growing up believe their dads are the strongest man in the world, but we still believe that. You're our hero and we hope you know how much we love you. Rest easy knowing your legacy will live on forever".

A beautiful and loving tribute to Horace. Know he will certainly be missed by his family and friends. He was truly "one of a kind" and a very talented man in so many ways. Enjoyed him at the bank, first as a colleague and then as our boss. My heart goes out to all of you during this very difficult time.
