James Cooke Obituary

James Arthur Cooke

January 30, 1951 - April 14, 2025

Jim Cooke was born and raised in Richmond, VA, and died on April 14, 2025. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Ginny and Jack Cooke. Jim is survived by his brother, Jeff Cooke (Marti); sister, Janet Woody (Paul); son, Russell Cooke; and nephews, Chris Cooke and the notorious Woody brothers, Jake (Emmy), Pete (Kelly), and Chris (Molly).

Jim graduated from JR Tucker High School in 1970, where he played varsity football and was named to the All-Metro team in 1969. Jim served in the US Air Force from 1970-1974 and in the Virginia Army National Guard.

Jim used his Air Force radio repair skills to pursue work as a commercial restaurant appliance repairman. Clients knew him as the "Hobart man" who could get dishwashers and mixers back online ASAP.

Jim enjoyed time in Iceland and London during his AF career, and later enjoyed road trips to Alaska, Mount Rushmore, and other western stops. He spent many happy hours cruising on his motorcycle on the backroads of Virginia and beyond.

Jeff and Janet want to thank the dedicated staff at the Central Virginia VA Health Care System for ten years of caring for our brother.

I saw Jim now and then at Phil's Continental Lounge. He was always entertaining to chat with.
He was always kind and always a gentleman! I carry a memory of him sitting on the patio at Phil's, looking like Mark Twain. I'll miss him.

Jeff & Janet, we know you will miss your zany, lovable, (handsome!) brother even more than we will miss our amazing uncle and friend. This has all happened way way way too soon. Sending love your way.

Jim was in my life for quite a long time. He loved animals as I did, he loved and respected nature and became quite interested in grow Roses. He was a terrific cook, who could put most restaurants to shame. He often tried to help people who needed it and his laugh was as infectious as his baritone voice. I believe he was happiest riding his BMW and seeing new landscapes and friendly folks. Thanks to Janet & Jeff, peace to all who loved him

I am saddened to hear about Jim. He was a good good friend of ours. I lost my husband December 10, 2024 (Juddy Bellam). Jim would come visit with us on many occasions. He and Juddy were good friends. It sounds as if Jim had been sick. My thoughts and prayers for the family at this trying time. Chris Bellam

We spent many years knowing Jim. My husband, Tom Jones, went to Tucker with him and formed a friendship at that early age. Jim was in our lives constantly over the next 40 years or so. We spent a lot of time riding motorcycles with Jim. I remember my first ride on my Harley, Jim was the lead guy. He stopped at a yellow light and held it together and missed him and held the bike up. Which was a feat. Another Jim & I ride to Orange County to get calendars from the Irge Harley Davidson Dealership. Had a great ride up and back and actually met G Gordon Liddy while we were there! We camped with Jim and enjoyed hanging out together. He was a great friend and I have been wondering about him these past 19 years. Was not aware of where he was being taken care of. Jim was a terrific friend and all around good dude. He will be sorely missed
