James Richard Garner III

Jim Garner (Aug 30, 1950 to Nov 28, 2025) – computer programmer by day, philosopher and musicophile at heart. If he was able to help someone – HE DID. A private man who donated and helped anonymously - just the way he wanted it. A brilliant mind that held a Master's in Mathematics and Computer Science long before people knew what a personal computer was or how pervasive computers would be in their lives. He was a truth seeker while keeping a wonderful sense of humor. He could take complex ideas and make them relatable and understandable for anyone. He was a mentor and natural teacher who cared deeply for everyone in his life.

In 1968, he set his high school's record that stood for two decades by running a two mile in under 10 minutes. He ran, walked, and cycled for as long as he could.

He loved music, playing guitar and piano - often writing his own lyrics to songs to honor the people he respected. His huge album and CD collection was eclectic and covered many genres.

He was interested in everything and followed several scientific sites on the internet to keep up with new developments in medicine and space exploration.

Jim is survived by his sister, Anne Garner; his nieces, Helen Adams (Darren) and Rachael Barker (Scott); his great nephew, Jack Adams, and his very close Northern Neck cousins, Katherine Bowen (Junior) and David Rowe (Marion).

Special thanks to the nurses at Covenant Woods who kept him active and engaged in these final years.

Visitation will take place at Bennett's Funeral Home in Mechanicsville on Dec 10th at 9 a.m. with the funeral following at 10 a.m.

Burial at Signal Hill at 11 a.m.
