James Hughes Obituary
James Stuart "Jimmy" Hughes, 85, of Bumpass, passed away on November 24, 2025, in Richmond, Va. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Georgie Hughes; and siblings, Robert W. Hughes, Clyde L. Hughes, Earl B. Hughes, Jane H. Gooch, Charles F. Hughes, Roy H. Hughes, and Doris H. Tate. He is survived by a son, James D. Hughes (Shannan); two grandchildren, Sebastian J. Hughes and Peter R. Hughes; sister, Georgie H. Morgan (Dabney); and brother, Melvin W. Hughes, who has since passed away; beloved nephews, nieces, and other extended family and friends. He was a retired employee at Dupont in Richmond, Va. Jimmy's favorite place on earth was his cattle farm in Bumpass. It was not only his livelihood but also his sanctuary-a place where he found joy in hard work, peace in the outdoors, and pride in the traditions of farming.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m., and 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday at the Mechanicsville Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd, where services will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, December 10, 2025. Interment will be private.
The visitation and service will be shared with James's brother, Melvin, who passed away December 4, 2025.
