James Sealey Obituary

SEALEY James Edward Sealey was born on February 4, 1942 in North Carolina and departed this life on January 21, 2007 in Deltaville, Va. He founded Sealey Optical Laboratory Corporation, now Sealey-Southern, in the Richmond area in 1976. He was always on the cutting edge of the optical business, having worked for one of the first labs to make plastic eye lenses, designing two diagnostic lenses still in use today, and serving on the J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College Board for four years, where he helped to set up the course work for optician degrees. He retired to Deltaville in 1981. He served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Highland Springs Lions Club, the Middlesex Lions Club and Donovan Masonic Lodge # 75 AF&AM, where he served as Master for two years. He is survived by his wife, Mary A. Sealey; his son, Dr. James E. Sealey II; daughter-in-law, Dr. Kaaren H. Haynes; a grandson, James Eugene Haynes Sealey all of Perry, Ga.; and his daughter, Hope Neff of Phoenix, Ariz. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 24 at 2 p.m. at Zoar Baptist Church, Deltaville, followed by a Masonic service. Family members will receive friends in the church fellowship hall at 1 p.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Children, ACCA Shrine Center, P.O. Box 9217, Richmond, Va. 23237.
