James "Smitty" Leonard Smithson, born May 30, 1942, completed his earthly journey on December 5, 2025, and was called home to be with his Heavenly Father. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Smithson; brothers, Fred, Willie, William; and sister, Nancy Jane. He is survived by his wife, Kathy Barranger "Angel Girl" of 33 years; daughters, Debbie (Roy) and Cindy; son, Leonard "Smitty" (Michelle); seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, December 19 at Woody's Funeral Home, 9271 Shady Grove Road, Mechanicsville. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday December 20 at Salem Presbyterian Church, 5394 Studley Road, Mechanicsville. Interment following the service at the church. Flowers are welcome, or contributions can be made to Shriners Children's Hospital or Children's International.
