July 26, 1935 - July 30, 2025

Jean Murphy Harris, born July 26, 1935 to Clarence Campbell and Alice Hall Murphy of Beaverdam, Va. died July 30, 2025 in Holly Grove, Va. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Wayland Vaughan Harris; sisters, Josephine Goodman and Alice Postans; and brother, Clarence Warren (Boodie) Murphy. She is survived by her son, Wayland Vaughan (Bubba) Harris, Jr.; daughter, Sherry Lacy and her husband, Ray; granddaughter, Caroline Reddy and her husband, Sean; great-granddaughter and namesake, Cecelia Jean Reddy; sister, Dale Taylor; brother, Charles William (Billy) Murphy; and many nieces, nephews, and other family members. The family will receive friends at Lacy Funeral Home, Mineral, from 2 to 4 p.m on Monday, August 4. A graveside funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 5 in Hopeful Baptist Church cemetery in Montpelier. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Holly Grove Volunteer Rescue Squad, Bumpass, Va. An online guestbook is available at www.lacyfh.com.

What a nice lady! I knew her only through her children, students in my classes--but ever pleasant. A treat as a "student parent"...and I am sure, more than that as a real parent.
