Jean McCammon Obituary

Jean Bowers McCammon passed away at age 104 on August 27, 2025, in St. Petersburg, Florida. Ms. McCammon was born in Richmond, Virginia and lived there for many years with her husband, Sam McCammon, a Presbyterian minister. In later years, they moved to St. Petersburg. Rev. McCammon passed away in 2009. Although most recently residing at Westminster Palms in St. Petersburg, she was in her heart a Virginian with great affection for Richmond and the Eastern Shore.

Ms. McCammon is survived by her daughter, Anne Justiss, and her son, John McCammon (Alexis); by four grandchildren, Adrianne Justiss, Katy Hottinger (Jon), Molly Brose (Chris), and Erin Hopkins (Miles); and by seven great grandchildren, Charlie and Landon Hottinger, Sam and Oliver Brose, and Quinn, Riley, and Tess Hopkins.

Ms. McCammon graduated from the University of Richmond (VA). She tirelessly devoted her energies to her children as they grew up. In later years she served as an elementary school teacher. She was deeply devoted to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was always active in the life of her church. Her deep Christian faith set an example of loving kindness for all. She had a gift for nurturing people in need as well as nourishing all around her with delicious, healthy food which may explain her longevity. A gentle soul, she will be dearly missed by her family and by all who knew her.

A service celebrating her life will be held on a date to be determined at First Presbyterian Church, 701 Beach Drive N.E., St. Petersburg, FL. In lieu of flowers, anyone wishing to make a memorial contribution may consider Presbyterian World Mission, Presbyterian Church U.S.A., P.O. Box 643700, Pittsburgh, PA, 15264-3700.
