Jesse Roberts Obituary

Jesse Roberts III

February 27, 2025

Crewe, Virginia – Jesse Frederick Roberts, III, known to many as "Robbie", passed away in his home on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at the age of 68. Robbie was born on July 17, 1956, in Crewe, Virginia to Jesse Frederick Roberts, Jr. and Lorene Allen Roberts.

Robbie met and began dating the love of his life, Lynne Lawrence Roberts, in 1985 and they soon-after married in 1987. They had two sons, Jesse IV and Zach while living in Dinwiddie, before moving in 1993 and building a life together in his hometown of Crewe, VA.

Robbie attended Longwood University where he was a proud founding member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity on campus. Robbie was a dedicated public servant with a strong sense of duty. He was a member of the Virginia State police from 1980 to 2003 – the latter ten years in which he was a Sergeant. During a distinguished career spanning 23 years, Sergeant Roberts served with unwavering integrity and courage. He was known for his dedication to highway safety and law enforcement. Robbie was respected by colleagues and community members alike for his commitment to justice and his friendly banter. After retirement, he proudly served the Nottoway County School system as a truancy officer during two tenures between 2004 and 2025, as well as being an active member of the Planning Commission and Social Services Board.

Beyond the badge, Robbie was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He cherished time spent with family and loved cracking jokes and playing ball with his children and his nieces and nephews. He could often be found at the Crewe Country Club playing golf, laughing with friends, and cheering on his beloved Virginia Cavaliers! Robbie also served as a deacon for his church community at Pryor Memorial Presbyterian Church in Crewe, VA, where he was a lifelong member.

Robbie is preceded in death by his mother and father, Lorene and Jesse Roberts, Jr., as well as his sister-in-law, Anne Roberts (Mickey). His spirit lives on through his loving wife of 37 years, Lynne Roberts; brothers, Mickey Roberts and Jeff (Mary Ann) Roberts; his two children, Jesse (Taryn) Roberts, IV and Zach (Lizzie) Roberts; his two grandchildren whom he loved and adored, Camden and Walker; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, March 10, 2025, at 2 p.m. at Crewe Cemetery on The Falls Road in Crewe, Virginia. The family will receive friends directly following the graveside service at the Crewe Country Club located at 301 Country Club Road. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Pryor Memorial Presbyterian Church-Roberts Christian Outreach Fund.
