John Dudley Hott Sr.

1936 - 2022

HOTT, John Dudley, Sr., 86, of Lakeside, Va., beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away on November 11, 2022. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 46 years, Debra Carter Hott; brothers, James, Roy, Wilbur, Harry and Conway Hott; and sisters, Irene Woodall, Norma Poarch, Kathleen Mitchell and Harriett Cogle. John is survived by his sisters, Mae Lipscomb and Audrey Stevens (Steve); children, John D. Hott Jr. (Kristin), William Hott, Mary Crowder (John) and John R. Hott (Patricia); grandchildren, Fran Warren (Matt), John Crowder IV (Heather), Odessa Hott, Zorro Hott and Micah Hott; great-grandchildren, Quin and Elly Warren and Alice and Ann Crowder; sister-in-law, Linda Carter; niece, Sarah Carter; and many more nieces and nephews.

John pursued a career as a truck driver with Colonial Stores and later, Overnite Transportation. He was always the handyman, briefly running his own business, Odds and Ends Home Repairs. In retirement, John loved to "piddle" in his garage, building contraptions out of spare lawn mower parts.

John loved his music, most notably playing the steel guitar for many years. He was well known for his "garage parties," with music played into the night.

Family visitation will be held at Affinity Funeral Service in Mechanicsville (8074 Bus US-360) on Tuesday, November 22, 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. A 3 p.m. graveside service will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery (4000 Pilots Ln.).
