Joseph Fary Obituary
November 15, 1942 - May 15, 2025
Joseph Ladell Fary, 82, of Mechanicsville, passed away Thursday, May 15, 2025. Born November 15, 1942, in King & Queen to the late Walter and Gladys Fary, he was also preceded in death by his wives, Dian Cobb Fary and Linda Martin Fary; brother, Walter Lee Fary; and his sister, Elvira Francis Fary.
Joe is survived by his brother, Melvin Fary; niece, Paula Fary; nephews, Michael Fary, Douglas Saunders, and Scott Saunders, great nephew, Calvin Robertson Fary stepsons, Billy Wyatt, Jr., Ray Blevins, Jr. (Kim); step daughter, Valerie Watling; as well as extended family and numerous friends that have become family. He is also survived by his beloved Mini-Pincer, Sandy Carol, who has been by his side for 16 years. On February 5, 1965, Joe joined the Navy serving on the USS Barney DDG 6 during Vietnam, receiving a Purple Heart in 1967. After recovering from his wounds, he was stationed 'Stateside' at Defense General Supply where he continued his Naval Career until his retirement in 1998 after 32 years of service. In 2009, Joe began working for RichPro Pest Control as a termite sprayer until fully retiring in 2017. He was a loyal member of Richmond East Moose Lodge since 1986, VFW Post 9808, and was a lifetime member of New Hope United Methodist Church in Gloucester County, Virginia.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at New Hope United Methodist Church, 2489 Lewis B Puller Memorial Hwy, Saluda, VA 23149. The family will receive friends on Monday, May 19, 2025, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Vincent Funeral Home, 417 11 th St. West Point, VA 23181. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to a charity of your choice or New Hope United Methodist Church Building Fund- Saluda VA. The family asks attendees to dress casually to honor Joe's wishes.
