Joseph Pittman Obituary

Col. Joseph Edward Pittman Jr., 70, of Amelia, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on February 27, 2006. He was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret and Joseph E. Pittman Sr. and sister, Phyliss P. Baldwin. He is survived by his wife, Jean W. Pittman; two sons, Russell E. Pittman and Keith R. Pittman and his wife, Denise; brother, Arthur B. Pittman and his wife, Carol; sister, Aretta P. Sanders and her husband, Waymon; grandchildren, Kristen M. and Joseph R. Pittman; stepgrandchildren, Shelby, Jonah, Courtney and Bryan Pennington and Grace Tinnell; brother-in-law, Charles A. Baldwin and his family; and many nieces and nephews. Col. Pittman was a U.S. Navy veteran and retired in 1996 as Chief of Police for Chesterfield County after 38 years of service. A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Friday, March 3, 2006 at Bethany Place Baptist Church, 1501 S. Providence Road, Richmond, Va. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Chesterfield County Police Foundation, P.O. Box 148, Chesterfield, Va. 23832.

I would first like to give my condolences to everyone that knew Eddie. As I only knew him for a few years, he was an honest and intriguing man. I will always be grateful to him and Jean for raising Kristen to the beautiful and sophisticated woman she is today. I am sorry that I was not able to get to know him better.

Eddie was the best Father-In-Law. He was always there for his family. He affected everyones' life that he came in contact with. He never spoke a negative word of anyone. He was always very supportive, and caring. He is respected by all. He was a loving and gentle Grandfather. He was also like a father figure to his grand-children.
