Joyce Crone Obituary

CRONE, Joyce "Mimi" Burnette, born November 20, 1937, of Mechanicsville passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family and friends on June 19, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Herbert Burnette and Pearl Ellen Ward; brothers, Johnny and Jimmy Burnette; husband of 63 years, George Olaf Crone Jr.; daughter-in-law, Lisa Overby Crone; and grandson, Clyde Carson Crone. She is survived by her children, Steve Anthony Crone, Patrick Daryl Crone, Jackie Crone Beasley, Matthew Tyler Ward Crone, George "Trey" Olaf Crone III; grandchildren, Sarah Gallegos, Elaine C. Renick, Dutch Crone, Amy Semken, Cassie Crone, George "Olie" Olaf Crone IV, Dylan Crone, Austin Crone; great-grandchildren, Grady Semken, Dawson Semken, Sullivan Renick. No matter the task at hand Joyce could master it, be it art, home improvement, cooking, gardening, caregiving, and much more-a true savant. Born in Lunenburg County, she began life alongside an extensive family, including her cherished grandmother, Marion Louise Moore, who greatly influenced her. As a child in Richmond, she demonstrated her work ethic at school and later in the workforce, though her role as the most caring, loving mother was always her priority. After her children were grown, she made use of her non-idling hands at the aviation department and subsequently at the General Assembly of Virginia, she was truly a skillful worker. In the early years of her retirement, she traveled across America and later to Europe. Always finding interest in the life God gave her, led her to research her family lineage back to Scotland, where she learned her ancestors were of the esteemed Burnett clan. She visited Scotland multiple times and became the chief editor of the Burnett Banner, an international publication. A genuinely awesome, beautiful, and utterly selfless person, she sets an example we should all aspire to emulate in our lives. Until her last day, she put all others ahead of herself and was the kindest, most compassionate person on the planet. Heaven surely has been blessed with the presence of a true angel. "Never will there be a day that I won't talk to you in my mind, or think of how much more beautiful heaven is now that you are there".
