Judith Lynch Obituary

Judith Eleanore Lynch

May 25, 1938 - August 27, 2025

Judith Eleanore (Johannsen) Lynch died peacefully at her home in Chesterfield, Va., on August 27, 2025. She was born May 25, 1938 in the Bronx, N.Y., to Emil and Dorothy (Koob) Johannsen. Six years later she was joined by her beloved brother, Gerald. She was raised in the Pelham Bay area of the Bronx. Judy graduated from Preston High School during which time she met the love of her life, Daniel Anthony Lynch. She earned her RN at Misericordia Hospital School of Nursing and, two weeks after graduation, she and Dan were married. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on May 14, 2025. Dan preceded her in death on June 3, 2025.

While raising their family in Cape May Court House, N.J., Judy worked as a pediatric nurse at Burdette Tomlin Memorial Hospital. The family moved to Richmond, Va., in 1979 where she worked at several skilled nursing homes and was honored to have served as the head charge nurse at one such facility. With pediatric nursing skills as a comfort to new parents, Judy eventually established an in-home childcare service for newborns and infants. She was active in the Women's Auxiliary of the St. Edward's Chapter of the Knights of Columbus, The New Virginians, The Republican Club, and any group of friends who played Bridge and Mah Jongg.

Judy is survived by children Deborah Doran Lynch, Daniel Edward Lynch (Alice), Judith Marie Lynch, and Douglas Amery Lynch (Shellie); grandchildren Bebhinn Rae (David Monroy), Caroline Carter Emily Lynch, Mairin Kate Lynch, Megan Amery Lynch, and Ryan Joseph Lynch; two great-grandchildren; and extended family members Joseph H. Lynch, William "Uncle Bill" Caldwell, and Hseth Burch. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, September 6th, 1 p.m., at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church in Bon Air, Va. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Knights of Columbus Richmond Assembly, 1165 (Fourth Degree), or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

No one had a more loving cousin than Judy. The memories abound from family gatherings in Pelham to the wonderful summers at the Morris Yacht Club. The Koob's and the Johannsen's truly valued family. The Lord is kind and merciful and Cousin Judy was both to the children in her care. I hope her brother and husband are the first to greet her in Heaven.

Dan and Judy were our next door neighbors and friends for 18 years. There will be a hallow feeling having them both gone, but I know they are both being greeted in Heaven by my Betty and are sharing stories of those years that they were neighbors.
I got the opportunity to help Dan and Judy out over the years and Judy would always reach out to Betty to thank her for sharing her my time with them.
A special caring lady who will missed.
